Our lives are defined by moments. Moments past and moments to come. These moments are lost as fast as they are found, their strands left to be considered only as memories fragmented in our minds. Floating in and out of reach, they are hard to capture because they were once engrossed in an emotion. Such emotion seemingly impossible to revisit.... but I'll try.

It's my turn, my view, my shot at life.

a night to remember?

While still somewhat hopped up on ADD meds, after homework, I couldn’t sleep. Surprise, surprise.

So I started scrolling through my mental list of friends, family, and former relationships… focusing on the very first memory I have of each, especially first dialog exchanges. I found it odd how we forget multitudes of conversations, trips and even heartbreaking fights but we can remember every detail of a sentence first muttered years ago.

As I study for my final psychology exam I couldn’t help but consider and write about the intense complexity of memory formation. It astonishes me that such small events in time can be crystallized for decades, even lifetimes. What is the reason for this? Why does it occur?

Try looking into your past and think about it. Remember those side comments you heard accidentally as a teenager that impacted you, or the time you felt completely accomplished by a minor compliment or gesture, then ask yourself why. These kinds of memories hold significance and I believe they can retrospectively help us find our true identities as adults.

It can be odd and possibly even painful to revisit, but ultimately they have distilled in me a greater purpose. The idea of a bigger perspective, like a spiritual overcast is something that justifies the random memories to me. They become more than just occurrences, sound vibrations, thoughts caused by chemical reactions in the mind- they are human expressions evoking a timeless affect on any given viewer. We then ask where these expressions are originated to cause such impact, if not in the scientific explanation in research…

Memories may be tossed away initially like meaningless clutter, but they can be become transcending tools. Crashing through freshly formed recollections like a steel hammer, they will make you believe in God
